- Biography -
Bonnie Mizell is a classically trained pianist from the deep south of Ozark, Alabama. She began playing at an early age and competed in statewide performances up until 2001 when she graduated with her degree in music from Florida State University. During her college years Bonnie produced three solo albums: Bonnie (original piano compositions), Love’s Tempest (original Christian music), and The Only One (a country album) recorded with award-winning producer, Larry Butler. Two of her country songs, “Was it Me?” and “I Bet You’re Going Crazy” from The Only One album, won awards in the Bannon Open Songwriting competition in 2001 and “Was it Me?” has traveled among the airwaves as far as New Zealand.
The disaster of 9/11 found Bonnie reporting the horrific news as a radio personality on her family radio station WRJM 93.7 in her home town. Living close to a military town and having many friends who would soon leave for Iraq, Bonnie, like many other Americans, felt the impact of the ensuing war and expressed her thoughts and support through song. “Over There” became an instant success in the southern tri-state region and Bonnie shortly after moved to Nashville where she performed the song for several military functions and began her career as a recording artist. Her originals reflect the styles of Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crowe and Norah Jones with a writing style similar to Billy Joel and Elton John.
Bonnie moved to Portland, Oregon to begin training as a dueling piano player. The transition from classical and love songs to rock n’ roll and pop came to her quickly. But after almost a year performing in Portland, Bonnie was invited to join the impressive team of dueling piano players in Las Vegas in May of 2005 where she performed and worked on perfecting her skills as an outstanding live performer.
Now Bonnie performs regularly among a select few entertainers at the Paris casino. She has also performed at many other prestigious casinos such as New York, New York, Harrah’s, the Rio, Excalibur, Treasure Island, the Liberace Museum, Hooters Casino, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Bellagio, Wynn, Trump Tower, Golden Nugget, Boulder Station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Casino, The Luxor, Ceasar’s Palace, MGM, Sunset Station, Texas Station. She is also one of the favored performers at the Hilton Casino for private events and parties for clients such as GUCCI and NAHB.
Bonnie also presented her own show, “The Bonnie Mizell Show” at Laughlin’s most popular lounge, Splash Cabaret, in Laughlin, Nevada in 2008, performing with one of Las Vegas’ most long-standing bands, Farenheit.
Bonnie was one of three acts chosen to represent Las Vegas Tourism in Washington, D.C. with Mayor Oscar Goodman in 2008.
She was also a featured performer at the first dueling piano club on Broadway at HA! Comedy Club in New York City, New York, where she recorded her latest album.
Obviously, playing rock n’ roll every night has had it’s affect on her writing style as much as her classical and Bonnie’s new album, “Two Sides,” reflects her growth and journey in music over the last few years. Her album is currently available. However a new one is on the way so keep checking in for current performance dates and the latest news on her new album. And if you’re in Las Vegas, make sure you catch her show! |
